ironic pursuits (april 2007)

Happiness is so fleeting that after countless comings and goings, you start to get scared of it. Knowing that sooner than later, it’ll evade you again.

In a way, it’s better to be extremely miserable to the point that nothing can make you even more miserable. Because then, you can only expect to be happy.

Maybe happiness, when it comes to those people who’ve been miserable their whole lives, won’t be as fleeting. Maybe happiness, to make up for its absence, would stay with them longer.

Fair enough.

I guess it’s best to not think about it. No expectations. Learn to let go. And when it’s gone, just go on. Don’t think about it. Don’t look back. Keep moving. Stay afloat.

Because no one can own happiness. But everyone’s free to pursue it. Because no one is bound to misery. Yet everyone seems to get hooked on it.

The irony.

What I’d give to be able to live with or without.
